Year 7

Thank you for considering St Matthews Catholic School for your child’s education. We consider it a privilege to be entrusted with the responsibility of nurturing your child’s growth and development and look forward to developing a strong partnership with you as we work together to help them become the best that they can be.

Does my child need to be Catholic to enrol?

All families and their children, Catholic or non-Catholic, are invited to have a Catholic education, however Parents/Carers must support the philosophy of the Catholic School and children must participate in Religious Education classes and attend Religious activities such as class/school prayer and school Masses.

A priority order is considered as outlined in the Enrolment Policy to students who are baptised Catholic and who live in the local parish, however, schools are open to all who wish to be guided in their education by the principles and teachings of Christ.

Year 7 Transition Program

For Year 6 students moving into secondary school our programs acknowledge the uniqueness of the individual which is at the heart of Catholic Education. Focusing on skills needed for the secondary schooling context, students are supported in their academic, social, emotional and spiritual capacities allowing them to fully engage in all learning and co-curricular opportunities provided. Students participate in two orientation days designed to familiarise themselves with typical secondary subjects; routines whilst making connections with staff, other students and our amazing Secondary campus. On the first days of secondary school Year 7 students engage in a comprehensive and purposeful program designed to facilitate a smooth transition into the new routines and skills required for learning in a secondary context. Sessions such as “Lets Get Organised”; “Chromebook Boot Camp”; “Our Chapel, Our Faith”; and “Orientation Course - School Tour” along with transition and ice breaker games have been designed to provide students with an opportunity to settle into their new environment before classes and learning officially begins.
