NSWCCC Netball Carnival
The NSWCCC Netball carnival was held on the 28th August in Penrith. As a team, we travelled down on the bus together before participating in team bonding events: shopping at Penrith Westfields, a team dinner at Penrith and of course finishing off the day with competitive games at Timezone. What a way to prepare for State Carnival.
The carnival itself was a wonderful day, where our students displayed high levels of enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the day.
A huge congratulations to our Year 9 boys on winning the State Catholic Schools Cup and to our Senior girls who also won their division. A magnificent achievement.
Our Junior girls, Intermediate girls and Senior boys each placed 3rd in their respective divisions. You have done St Matthews proud.

NSWCCC State Trials
On Tuesday the 27th August, after being selected at the Diocesan held in Cowra earlier in the year, Zara and Jorja represented the Bathurst Diocese in the Under 18’s NSWCCC Netball trials in Penrith.
This selection carnival was made up of the best players selected from across the NSW to represent their local area to compete for a position in the NSWCCC team who will play at Nationals later this year. Both Zara and Jorja played tremendously well and we congratulate them on their major achievement of making our Diocesan team.
Netball Schools Cup Regional Finals
On Thursday the 5th of September, our year 9/10 boys netball team and our year 9/10 girls netball team travelled to Orange to compete in the Netball NGS Super Schools Cup Regional Finals- a netball competition which is open to all schools in NSW - Public, Catholic and Independent schools.
Our girls netball team had a challenging day ahead, taking on much taller teams from across our region including Dubbo, Forbes, Bathurst, Lithgow, Broken Hill and Nyngan. Our girls had a very successful day, winning 4 out of their 6 games, coming in third place.
Our boys netball team started the day in convincing form. Having recently taken the win at the NSWCCC Carnival, our speed, accuracy and form definitely paid off coming up against schools including Dubbo, Forbes, Bathurst, Lithgow, Orange, Broken Hill and Nyngan. The Intermediate team easily won their first 4 games, with the closest score being a gap of 20 goals. They faced a much tougher battle coming up against a determined St Johns side. It was goal for goal, but our St Matthews team gained the lead at the end, winning by 2 goals. St Matthews then went on undefeated throughout the day.
We want to congratulate all of our players for not only their amazing achievement, but their hard work and dedication in the lead up to the finals. It certainly paid off.
We also want to thank Lily and Emilyn for giving up their time and coming away to umpire for us.
Our year 9/10 boys netball team will now progress to the State final to be held in Olympic Park in November
