From the Executive Principal

On Monday our teachers and learning support officers participated in a highly productive Staff Development Day. These days provide crucial opportunities for our staff to engage in continuous professional learning that enhances their capacity to support the needs of all students and ensure your children have access to the best possible learning opportunities.

At our Primary Campus we were privileged to learn from our highly knowledgeable Stage Coordinators, Mell Hunt and Kate Harris, as well as our Learning Support Teacher, Martin Howes. Staff were able to spend time developing their understanding of the Mathematics Essential Assessment platform, learning more about working with students who have English as an Additional Language or Dialect as well as strategies to support students with additional learning needs. Having time for teachers and LSO’s to engage with these important components of their role will have a direct benefit for our students.

At our Secondary Campus we welcomed some guest presenters from the Catholic Education Diocese of Bathurst and the focus on implementation of NSW Curriculum Reform. NSW is in the process of implementing a new curriculum for Kindergarten to Year 12. It is the first comprehensive reform of the NSW school curriculum in 3 decades. This reform aims to strengthen and streamline what is taught in schools. It provides an opportunity to engage and reenergise what we teach and how we teach it and focuses on making clear what is essential with the intention of giving more time for deep learning, establish stronger foundations in English and mathematics, and provide stronger links between HSC subjects and career pathways. Having time for our secondary staff to engage with these reforms will have extensive benefits for our secondary students.

We are always grateful for the learning we are able to access on these student free days. Thank you for supporting our wonderful teachers!

God bless
Angela Myles
