Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week
On May 26th, Sorry Day, we remember the Stolen Generation, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were taken from their families. It is about acknowledging the hurt and sadness caused by this in the past and working towards Reconciliation, or healing, between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians.
Leading on from Sorry Day, we Celebrate Reconciliation Week from May 27th until June 3rd. The theme for this year is 'Bridging Now to Next'. This theme encourages Australians to reflect on the connection between past, present and future and to move forwards together, guided by the lessons of history, to build a more united and respectful nation.
