Staff Professional Learning on Restorative Practice
On Monday, March 17th, our staff participated in a professional learning day focused on restorative practice. Now in its third year, our partnership continues to strengthen our approach to creating positive classroom environments. This session emphasized the importance of classroom climate and the significant influence teachers have in fostering a supportive learning space.
On Tuesday, several staff members took part in coaching sessions to further enhance their restorative practice skills.
We extend our gratitude to Sheila from Real Schools for her invaluable support in guiding our staff through this journey.
Navigating Adolescence: Lessons from Netflix’s Latest Hit Series
Mental Health Awareness
A major theme in Adolescence is mental health—something increasingly relevant in today’s world. The series portrays characters dealing with anxiety, depression, and self-doubt, offering a glimpse into the importance of seeking support. It serves as a reminder that talking about mental health and reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness, but of strength. If the show resonates with you, know that there are teachers, counselors, and trusted adults ready to listen and support you.
The Influence of Social Media
Social media plays a significant role in the lives of the show’s characters, just as it does in real life. Adolescence explores both the positive and negative effects of online presence, from building connections to facing cyberbullying and unrealistic expectations. It encourages viewers to think critically about their digital lives and how social media impacts their self-esteem and relationships.
Starting a Conversation
If your child has been watching Adolescence, use it as an opportunity to start a conversation. Ask open-ended questions like, "What parts of the show felt real to you?" or "Which storylines stood out?" Listening without judgment creates a safe space for your child to share their thoughts and experiences.
Encourage honest discussions about the challenges they face, whether related to mental health, friendships, or social media. Share your own experiences and offer guidance where needed. Adolescence can be a confusing time, but open communication can help strengthen your relationship and provide much-needed support.
