With autumn in full swing, it's important to remember: think UV, not heat.
Sun damage is caused by UV radiation, which is different from the sun's thermal radiation (heat). Last weekend's heat wave illustrates this difference: Sydney temperatures reached 36°C on Sunday and only 22°C on Monday, yet the UV forecast for both days was very high at UV 8.5.
When the UV index is 3 or above, sun protection is recommended for all skin types. Ensure that children and employees use a combination of sun protection measures—clothing, hats, sunscreen, shade, and sunglasses—when outdoors. Download the free SunSmart Global UV app to check the current and forecasted UV in your area.
